The Bridging

Yesterday, my oldest son bridged from being a Webelo, to being a Boy Scout. I was proud, as any mother should be. Then my oldest daughter asked me, why she couldn't be a Boy Scout, other than because she isn't a boy. I had no answer. She told me, and I already knew, that she could do anything a boy could do.

She's tried joining the Girl Scouts, but they never contacted us back. We sent in paperwork, sent emails, tried to get her started...and never heard anything back. Besides all that, being a Girl Scout, even at the highest level, you don't get the benefits offered to a Boy Scout who receives the highest level. She feels it isn't fair, and her father and I agree. She has decided, at the age of 9, that she is going to accomplish all of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout, if for no other reason than to prove that a girl can do it. This blog will serve as a memoir of her journey, written by both she and I.
